Cheesecake Shop, Bendigo

Cheesecake Shop, BendigoThis Cheesecake Shop in Bendigo looks like a former service station to me with the driveway now providing undercover parking for people picking up their desserts and cakes.

The roof steps down from the vertical fin on the corner of the building. Decorated in the corporate livery it really makes the shop stand out.

Another interesting feature is the porthole set back where the front and side wall meet. I don't know whether this is a window that has been covered or if it was an original design feature.

A House in Bendigo

House, BendigoThis modest Art Deco home in the rural Victorian city of Bendigo.

I particularily like the use of brick as a decorative element against the smooth render of the walls.

The simple application of bricks arranged in a triangle is repeated three times along the front wall and also on the wall of the porch at the front door.

This porch is supported by a square made from the same bricks. The lowest part of the house is also clad with these bricks and the run up either side of the chimney and break through the roof but do not continue to the full height of the chimney.

The bricks have also been used in the shadows at the top of the walls under the eaves.

This arrangement can also bee seen in the garden wall which has a row (or two) of bricks top and bottom.

The gate posts also have a row of bricks top and bottom with the addition of a stepped element on top.

The house certainly isn't as spectacular as this nearby house but I think it is lovely that so much effort was out into the architectural decoration of a modest family home.

A House in Bendigo

Art Deco House, BendigoThis fabulous house is in Bendigo.

It has so much going for it including the well-maintained garden.

The low stepped wall around the large corner block is gorgeous, mixing raw brick with white-painted render. Look at the gateposts. Bulky cylinders but in porportion to the wall.

The gates could be in the form of stylised plants.

The house itself has two circular rooms at right angles to each other. A wonderful porch has been been created where they meet.

The chimney at the front of the house is tall and striking, rendered white except for the rule of three brick lines near the top.

Another house I could live in ... dream on.
